Justice & Peace Group

Sacred Heart, Justice & Peace Group

Our Parish has a committed Justice & Peace Group that meets monthly. All are very welcome to come and join us to pray and reflect on topical issues and how we can raise awareness in the Parish, engage with the wider community, and help to make the world a fairer place for all peoples.

Various related groups and activities in the parish include: CAFOD; Fairtrade, marking Peace Sunday, supporting prisoners of conscience, supporting a range of campaigns to further justice and peace. We have regular open prayer liturgies to pray for peace and justice including the Peace Rosary.  Sacred Heart also has Parish membership of Pax Christi – the international catholic movement of peace

In the autumn of 2016 the Parish agreed to support an initiative to work via Parishes for Peace to support Iraqi Christians in Madaba who had fled to Jordan. News of this project can be followed in the newsletter.

Our statement of purpose

Membership of the Justice and Peace group is open to all parishioners.  We meet regularly to pray about, and discuss, issues of injustice and the resolution of conflict, locally and throughout the world.

We try to deepen our knowledge of problems faced by others and to explore just solutions in the light of the Gospel and Church Social Teaching.

We seek to encourage prayer, reflection and action for Justice and Peace among our fellow parishioners.

Let us ask the Lord to help us to understand the law of love. How good it is to have this law! How much good it does us to love one another in spite of everything. Yes in spite of everything.’                                                                                            Evangelii Gaudium.
